Vista low-encryption legacy VPN

Some days ago I has some problems connection to an ancient PPTP server in my office. Found out Vista is denying 40-bit and 56-bit PPTP/L2TP connections by default. This translates in "Error 741". Obvious, right?

However, there is a hack of course:

Start the registry editor by typing regedit in the start menu search. Right click, Run as Administrator.

Locate
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\Parameters
Create or edit this key:

Name: AllowPPTPWeakCrypto
Value type: DWORD
Value data: 1

Also works with
AllowL2TPWeakCrypto
Value data: 1

This forces Vista to accept 40/56-bit encryption.

Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.

Enjoy your plain old unsecure VPN connection :D
